Responsibilities:
- Assist the surgical team before, during, and after surgical procedures.
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring cleanliness, organization, and availability of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies.
- Assist surgeons during surgical procedures by passing instruments, holding retractors, and maintaining a clear surgical field.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and provide assistance in a proactive and efficient manner.
- Prepare and position patients for surgery, including draping and sterilizing surgical sites.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assist with patient positioning and transfer as needed.
- Handle specimens and samples collected during surgery according to established protocols.
- Assist with wound closure, dressing application, and patient recovery in the post-operative period.
- Maintain accurate documentation of surgical procedures, including patient records and instrument counts.
Qualifications:
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential or equivalent certification preferred.
- Previous experience working as a surgical assistant or surgical technologist is advantageous.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, sterile techniques, and surgical instrumentation.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to anticipate the needs of the surgical team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary surgical team.
- Ability to remain calm and focused in high-pressure surgical environments.
- Commitment to maintaining patient safety and adhering to surgical protocols and guidelines.
- Willingness to participate in continuing education and professional development opportunities.
